The Solution Architect defines technical solutions that fulfill specific business objectives and service level agreements (SLAs), while balancing important concerns such as adherence to established practices, and alignment with enterprise strategy. Participates in the early phases of projects, producing solution options and approach documents that clarify the problem space. Proposes a recommended solution, explains the rationale, enumerates significant components (people, process and technology) and addresses relevant constraints, risks, competing concerns, alternatives and the consequences of proposed choices. May continue to participate in ongoing projects to consult during the design and development phases of the project. Maintains alignment with enterprise strategy, reference architecture and other guidelines. Communicates the key details to various stakeholders using architectural viewpoints including business, information, application, and technology perspectives. Determines what details are and are not important for that viewpoint. Within each perspective, considers conceptual, logical, and physical architectures.
Bachelor's degree in information Management, Business or Finance, or equivalent work experience.
5+ years of solutions architecture experience.
Insurance industry experience or experience working with insurance systems.
Strong proficiency in proven and emerging architectures/technologies such as SOA, web services and cloud computing.
Strong proficiency in open and de facto technology standards.
Strong proficiency in architectural standards, methodology and design.
Ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders to produce architectural solutions on projects of high complexity.
Knowledge of conceptual architecture diagrams and the ability to show the major users/channels of the system, the other systems it has to interact with, and the major logical functions and data that it must perform or use, establishing the scope of the project within those pieces.
Ability to lead the creation of conceptual and logical specifications for all layers of a technology solution through collaboration with application, data and enterprise architects.
Ability to recommend and support the delivery of technical solutions that fulfill business objectives while addressing architectural concerns, such as performance, scalability, quality, availability, security, privacy, enterprise integration, etc.
Knowledge of project management to support estimating schedule and resource requirements for delivering architecture solutions.
Ability to conduct design reviews and participate in process flow analysis and process redesign.
Ability to support the creation of a detailed functional design document to match customer requirements.
Ability to co-team with Technical Leads to produce a technical specification for custom development and systems. Knowledge to provide current best practice and 3rd Party solution alternatives as part of the functional design document.
Ability to ensure consistent application of architectural standards and principals across all projects and among architect peers.
Ability to contribute to ongoing development and improvement of HSB's solution architecture practice.
Ability to adhere to Project Life Cycle requirements, including presenting proposed solutions for the Architecture Review.
Ability to mentor new or junior solution architects.
Ability to collaborate with all stakeholders and peers and function as a team member.
Ability to meet and coordinate multiple tasks and tight deadlines.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
25% domestic and international travel expected.
